The Soulcalibur III ROM download contains the English PS2 disc image identified as SLUS-21216. It is stored inside a ZIP archive for emulator use. Extract the archive, then select the image in PCSX2. Most matches are still one-on-one weapon fights. The created fighter, however, has a separate military campaign.
From academy exercise to battlefield command
Chronicles of the Sword opens at the Parousia Military Academy in the Grandall Empire. The new cadet’s first assignment is a practice battle against Abelia, with a unit placed under their command. At this point, it is still an academy exercise. Across 20 chronicles, that training battle develops into a full campaign.
The battlefield screen uses roads, strongholds and a main base for each side. Friendly units move between these positions before any duel begins. Sending every soldier toward the enemy base can leave the player’s own stronghold unprotected. In early missions, losing that base or the entire allied force ends the operation.
When opposing units meet, the map hands control back to Soulcalibur’s normal 3D fighting system. Winning that encounter removes an obstacle, but the mission objective may still lie elsewhere. Some chronicles require the enemy main stronghold to be occupied. Others place a particular officer in the way.
The cadet changes between missions. Soulcalibur III has 13 occupations for custom fighters. The selected occupation opens a set of disciplines, and each discipline controls the weapon and command list used in battle. Combat raises the class level. Extra objectives can improve the gold awarded after a mission, which pays for new equipment.

Progress that survives the final chronicle
Finishing Chronicles of the Sword creates cleared campaign data. Loading it begins New Game Plus with the acquired experience retained, so another run does not send every fighter back to the beginning. Higher class levels also open further disciplines. A second campaign therefore starts with more options than the first.
PCSX2 requires a PS2 BIOS from your own console before it can start the extracted disc image. The save bug comes from the PS2 game itself. Older files on a shared memory card can make the Chronicles data unreadable if they are later moved, deleted or changed. Give Soulcalibur III its own virtual card, or use the emulator’s Folder memory-card option. Keep another copy of the save outside the active card.
