A Downed Character Can Become Marcus’s Next Shield

Damage builds the red Crimson Omen across the screen. Leaving enemy fire restores Marcus’s health, though severe damage can leave him crawling. A teammate may revive him before he bleeds out or gets executed. Grabbing a downed character creates a meatshield and restricts Marcus to a one-handed pistol. Explosives destroy that temporary cover.

Marcus Cannot Carry Every Useful Weapon

Marcus carries one pistol, one grenade type, and two additional weapons. A gun found at a set location or beside a fallen character can replace either of those additional weapons. Every gun also supports a melee attack.

A Grenade Can Wait on the Wall

Planting a grenade on a wall or floor creates a proximity trap. Fragmentation grenades can kill whoever triggers them. Ink Grenades instead poison the surrounding area without direct blast damage, which can force enemies away from cover.

Another Lancer Turns the Chainsaw Into a Duel

The Lancer’s chainsaw kills at melee range until another Lancer meets it. Rapid controller-button presses then decide the duel. Carrying a chain gun or mortar requires both hands and reduces Marcus to walking speed.

Jacinto Shows the Same Signs as Two Lost Cities

Six months after the Lightmass Bomb, vaporized Imulsion spreads the fatal Rustlung disease. Tollen and Montevado disappear underground, and Jacinto begins showing similar signs. The COG launches a large assault into the Hollow, with Delta Squad among its forces. Dom keeps searching for Maria, while a giant Riftworm is being used to sink cities. Delta later enters the New Hope facility and Mount Kadar before reaching Nexus, the Locust capital.

Two Partners Can Choose Separate Difficulties

Campaign mode supports solo play or two-player co-op as Marcus and Dom. Partners may choose separate difficulty settings. The communal combat system then adjusts enemy AI for each. A second player can join or leave during an active campaign. Normal sits between Casual and Hardcore, while Insane unlocks after one completed campaign.

Xenia Opens the ISO From the File Menu

The USA release comes in .iso format and carries a November 7, 2008 release date. Open xenia.exe or xenia_canary.exe, then choose File → Open. Select Gears of War 2.iso and wait for the game to boot.
