Pokemon Stadium 2 Rom is one of those Nintendo 64 games people often remember because it takes the whole idea of Pokemon battles and brings it onto a bigger screen with more energy. It came out in the U.S. back on December 14, 2000, and the ROM itself is pretty small, about 46 MB but still includes everything from the original release. Most people nowadays run it through an N64 emulator, and it holds up surprisingly well considering it’s been around for decades.
The game sticks to turn-based battles, but it doesn’t feel slow or complicated. You build a team, jump into fights, and try to read what your opponent might do next. Sometimes it goes exactly how you planned, and sometimes a random move from the AI throws everything off. Part of the fun is figuring out which Pokemon actually work together instead of just picking your favorites and hoping for the best—though, to be honest, plenty of us did that too.
One thing Stadium 2 is known for is its tournament cups. They start out simple enough but get tougher faster than you expect. The game doesn’t hold your hand; if your lineup isn’t right, you’ll notice it pretty quickly. Switching moves, trying different matchups, or even rethinking your whole team becomes part of the loop. It’s “strategy” without feeling like homework.
And then there are the minigames. They’re not huge or complicated, but they break things up nicely. Sometimes you hop into them just to cool off after getting wiped in a cup match. They’re silly, quick, and honestly a good excuse to stay in the game a little longer.
