Story and world of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

After years of laziness, Banjo and Kazooie are out of shape and spending their days eating pizza and playing games in Spiral Mountain. Their old enemy Gruntilda, now reduced to a talking skull, shows up to cause trouble again. Before the fight really starts, the mysterious Lord of Games appears, strips away Kazooie’s special moves and Grunty’s magic, and decides to settle the rivalry with a competition of his own. Spiral Mountain is on the line, and the winner keeps the home they love while the loser is sent to work forever in the Lord of Games’ factory.

The hub of the adventure is Showdown Town, a quirky city that connects to multiple game worlds created by the Lord of Games. Each world contains different challenges, timed events and races that reward Jiggies, the familiar golden puzzle pieces. Collecting enough Jiggies opens new doors, unlocks more levels and eventually leads to the final showdown against Grunty for control of Spiral Mountain.

Vehicle building and gameplay features

Instead of learning new moves in the traditional way, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts focuses on building and customizing vehicles. Inside Mumbo’s Garage, you can put together almost anything by snapping parts onto a simple frame. Engines, wheels, wings, fuel tanks and weapons can be combined in all sorts of strange configurations, from light hovercrafts and race cars to clumsy flying machines and experimental creations that barely hold together. The fun comes from testing ideas, adjusting your design and finding the right vehicle for each challenge.

The game also supports online play through Xbox Live, with modes that let players race, battle and experiment with their favorite vehicles against others. Blueprints can be shared so friends can try out each other’s designs, and there are options to save replays or in game photos to show off clever solutions to difficult challenges.
